I grew up eating stinky tofu; I dont find it so stinky though. :P Yet the smell bothers many foreigners I know here in Taiwan as they drive or scoot by a night market.

Thank you all your continuous support to PeggyTeachesChinese in the past year. I really appreciate it!

In the new of 2010, I hope our lessons will continue to inspire you and even more people to learn Mandarin. Not only do I wish this community for learning Mandarin would continue to grow by making these lessons but also look forward to the share of experiences and knowledge contributed by more learners. "I don't want other people to know how bad my Mandarin is" you might think. But please let me remind you that making mistakes is also a part of learning. Moreover, as a language learner, you don't want to be all shy and too self-conscious. Take myself as an example, English has never been my native language but I wasn't afraid to speak English since I first started to learn; that is why my English is better than people who began to learn it at the same time with me, even those who have been to an English speaking country to learn the language. I am now learning Japanese and I apply the same technique, same attitude.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.peggyteacheschinese.com/latest/2009/12/24/merry-christmas-sheng-dan-jie-kuai-le.html"><rss:title>Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! Sheng4 Dan4 Jie2 Kuai4 Le4! 聖誕節快樂!

Most of us in Taiwan didn't grow up celebrating Sheng4Dan4 Jie2(聖誕節) but we learned to celebrate it as a holiday(not officially, we don't have a day off during Christmas season) and I reckon people begin to celebrate Christmas because business men and women eyed the profitable business opportunity for it and established the popular culture or culture of commercialism of celebrating Christmas. The atmosphere of Christmas penetrates the island a month before it's even here: Christmas commodities such as plastic Christmas tree, Christmas lights, gifts, cards, costumes, parties and church or friends get-together dinners.

That being said, as Taiwanese people set out plans for Christmas with friends and classmates, how many of them really know the meaning of Christmas? Watch this video to be out and about Jhungli with Peggy! :)
