Outing with My Taiwanese Adult Students

Teaching is definitely one of my biggest passion. In addition to teaching Mandarin online, I took an English teaching position at an English adult school here in Taiwan.

This new teaching experience has been nearly eight months. I am very glad that I have been able to befriend many of the students I teach here. These students are eager to learn English. They spend hours at the institute after a long day of work or on weekends. I must say, I have gotten a lot of joy out of teaching these students, especially this class. 

It's definitely not easy to create a community among people who barely know each other. In an English adult class, students try to keep up with regular attendance but from time to time, they get caught up in work or family matters. You see some of your classmates twice a week, sometimes you don't see some of them for a month!

About two months before our course is finished, I asked them if they would be interested in an outing to somewhere on a weekend. Everyone seemed pretty enthusastic to this new idea. Throughout a number of discussions, a community was created both in the classroom and on Facebook. Now they all looked forward to coming to class and definitely to this trip. 

Last weekend, the trip was certainly a big success! Everyone got along really well. We had a lot of fun and took millions of picutres. We are now talking about arranging another one or two before I leave Taiwan. This class is absolutely my favorite class at the insitute. I am deeply grateful for these students' friendship and the time with them in the past six months.
