Peggy Lee for Fun Taiwan Co-Host

Fun Taiwan, a program on Living and Travel, one of Discovery family channels, aiming at exploring culture, food and people of Taiwan, is now searching for a co-host. Many introduction videos have been uploaded on Fun Taiwan Group page on YouTube,it’s been a tight competition. In fact, the word “tight” doesn’t even start to describe it. Since viewers are allowed to vote for competitors continuously, a competing phenomena has appeared between contestants, is that some contestants’ supporters or even a contestant him or herself are obviously voting a particular video up with nonstop clicks while voting down other contestants’ videos, certainly without a honest evaluation being made. This has continued for weeks and it looks like it’s the way it goes. I don’t even think the numbers of vote on your video is the judging criteria of whether you are one of the first round candidates or not. It keeps at it anyways.

This is what I hate about competitions, I myself have participated countless competitions, be it an English speech contest(the contests I’ve taken part in are mostly English 'something' contest), a running contest, a reading contest, you are unlikely going to befriend other contestants, who  are naturally also known as your opponents and vice versa. Even if you want to, you never know whether s/he is being a sincere acquaintance or an uptight opponent. And the sad thing is those, other competitors, are the ones you are supposed to be friends with, because it shows something in common between you and them if you appear to be in the same contest, you probably all share the same hobby or interest, like cooking, reading or running. In the case I am in is that mostly everyone who engages in this contest are all eligible to the required qualities as a host, which are being adventurous, open-minded and outgoing; in other words, it’s possible that we all share the same or similar personalities. They say “you can tell a lot about a person by the company s/he keeps”, so obviously we tend to befriend people who are like ourselves. I’ve always wondered if those who are in the same contest with me feel the same way, or all they care about is to kill you and eat your brains!

Peggy is a Taiwan native, but her English is quite quite good. Her lessons are generally geared towards beginners, though contain enough new vocabulary to keep intermediate students interested as well. Here are some of my favorite videos, in no particular order:
