Pre 20th Birthday Plan

So my birthday is in one week. Every day only gets more melancholy as life moves me toward the age of 20. Looking around people who have turned 20 ahead of me have had their birthday party bashed hard, I never apt to compare myself with others besides I’m not really into crowds so I guess I am just being 19 to have an desire for a birthday party to celebrate the beginning of an era in my life.
My beau has been asking me how I want to spend this "special" day since June, whether I want to have a party in a club, a motel or a barbecue party, that is even better. I flashbacked to my 19 birthday party last year, it wasn’t so special because it was only another year to count, on my own request, he threw a small pizza party for only me and the girls I had been friends with since junior high school. I thought it would be a nice one as it was not only my birthday but also a reunion dinner for four of us since we had been apart, meeting different people, living lives differently once we entered colleges. I looked forward to it wholeheartedly. However they never showed up, none of them did. It broke my heart and I fell into a great depression for days; even now, when I look back on it, it still hurts me as much as it did last year. It was like our years of friendship and their promises for their presence were dashed as a bet on the love of their lives, they thought, which eventually turned out to be an unpromising investment in a deficit.
A picture from my 19th birthday, when I was one of those short haired chicks. ;)
Before this unpleasant recollection drowns me, I already had my assured answer to his suggestion. “Nome. Who am I going to invite?” I murmured. It responses to why a sense of sentiment has overcome me these days, I wept myself to sleep a couple of nights, never felt this alone in my life. He got the picture and thoughtfully consoled me with another quick suggestion “We can invite your family and have a family party.” I wasn’t really excited by this idea at first but later on, I don’t see why not. Ever since I lost my faith in ‘friendship’ and have found it hard to conjunct myself with other people; on the other hand, I have gained a new fellowship with my sisters we never had before as I grow older and gradually understand their way of thinking by walking in their shoes. I am now able to carry on a long and rather profound conversation without awkwardness with my sisters on our views in life. Not that we share so much value with one another but at least we can understand each other on the basic principles. After all, we all grew up wearing the same kind of shoes manufactured by the same factory.
So I eventually decided how I am going to celebrate this day of turning into an official and legal adult --- Dinner with my two sisters and my mum, plus beau. :)
