Trip to Central Taiwan Nantou
Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 12:16AM My oldest sister, Jessica and I were convinced by my father to accompany him to join this one day trip to Nantou. It was like a reunion trip held by a group of retired military men who served at the same department many years ago. (Retired military men benefit well from some policies of the governement in Taiwan, such as paying less than an average person to see a doctor.)
While everyone seemed to be so routine to the scheduled agenda, Jessica and I were very much agitated by it. We did not get to stay long enough at each spot we visited, especially Sun Moon Lake. Moreover, these people never seemed to sing enough of karaoke. They sang all the way to Nantou and every chance they got whenever they were on the tour bus. This was the greatest torment!

Here are some pictures of the places we visited within a day:
This is the first place we stopped by, Chung Tai Chan Monastery(中台禪寺). I was silenced by the greatly majestic achitecture.
Inside the building, on the second floor, you get to see the founder of Buddhism, Gautama Buddha.
The next spot we visited was Puli Brewery(埔里酒廠), but I did not see any breweries but shops that sell various dessert made of Puli liquor, called Shao4 Xing1 Jiu3(紹興酒), be it a cake, popsicle, jelly, sausage, and delicacies.
The last (not the least) place we went, which has the most incredible view ever was Sun Moon Lake(日月潭). Every place we went was planned and scheduled. Although we went to 3 different places but it was actually quite rush. We were allowed to stay in Sun Moon Lake for only 30 minutes, that sucked.
Overall, it was a good trip, except that I would never travel with a group by a tour bus, ever again.
If any of you ever come to Taiwan to visit, these places are highly recommended. Not only will you get to understand some part of Taiwanese culture and food when you are at Chung Tai Chan Monastery and Puli Brewery, but the beauty of Taiwan once you meet up with Sun Moon Lake for your very first time. :)
Enjoy!
